For Fox Terrier Owners:
We have worked together to put together a list of helpful resources and our favorite things for both our Misty Hollow families and Fox Terrier fanciers alike. Something different works for everyone and that is ok, but these are the things we love to use here on our Fox Terriers!

Vaccination Protocol:
We recommend the Jean Dodd's Vaccination Protocol. In some things, more is better. This is NOT the case in vaccines, we actually recommend that less is more in the longevity of the dog.
After leaving us, we recommend a 1 year follow up DHPP from the last completed puppy vaccine. From then on, we recommend no more frequent than a DHPP vaccine every 3 years. In ideally situations, we recommend Titer testing before giving any of these booster vaccines. Most vets will draw blood for these, and UW-Madison among others will run the titers for Distemper & Parvo. Rabies Vaccines are due every 3 years after the first vaccine, if possible we recommend a Mercury FREE Rabies Vaccine.
We have begun to run Nomographs through UW-Madison on each mother & litter to find appropriate vaccination timing for each litter.

Our Favorite Foods & Supplements:
Feeding:
Here at Misty Hollow, we feed and recommend Purina Pro Plan. Many of our dogs are on Pro Plan Sport Performance 30/20. This is wonderful for our active dogs and youngsters, most of ours are on this formula until at least 2 years old and our high energy stay on it longer. Our older dogs are typically fed Purina Pro Plan Shredded Blend Chicken and Rice or Lamb and Rice.
*Due to some issues within the new Purina Pro Plan Formulas, our dogs are now eating Purina One Puppy and adults are eating Purina One Turkey/Venison Formula.*

Daily Supplements:
We have used Nature's Farmacy for various supplements, and love each that we have tried! Here are some of our favorites, we recommend looking around on their site or contacting us/them for additional information if there are specific concerns! They have many specialty options for conditions such as Cushings.
Dogzymes Gain and Shine: We love this supplement for that younger dog, or high energy dog alike that needs a bit of extra boost to gain and maintain weight. The dogs also love the taste!
Dogzymes Probiotic Max: This is fantastic as a daily probiotic, or as an additive during times of travel and stress. It is wonderful for bowl regulation as well as digestion and absorption of nutrients among other things. (This is also sold through Amazon & Chewy)
Dogzymes Complete: This is our go to supplement for daily use and traveling, it is available in powder and paste. It contains probiotics along with enzymes, vitamins, minerals and omegas.
Dogzymes Cran-Tri-C Cranberry & Vitamin C: This is a wonderful supplement for kidney & bladder concerns, we love it for any dogs that have had common UTI issues in the past!
Dogzymes Super-C Sodium Ascorbate: This is the non-acidic form of ascorbic acid, which contains human grade Vitamin C. This is great especially for older dogs or immune suppressed dogs, as the vitamin c helps fight off any infections they may come into contact with.

Bones & Chews
Please remember to always monitor and take away the chews when they hit the size of swallowing to avoid any risk of choking or intestinal blockage. Every dog has their own favorites, try out some different options and find your own preferred chews! Most of these chews are readily available, but below are some of the best priced & favorite places we have found!

Cod Skin Treats:
Flea & Tick Treatment
We use and recommend Springtime "Bug Off" treatment in defense of fleas, ticks, and many other bugs. We have had wonderful luck, and while it may not be 100% it is chemical free. It does take 4-6 weeks of usage before full coverage will be evident.
Our Favorite Leads & Training Devices:
We use a variety of walking and training devices as there is no one size fits all! Here are some recommendations and favorites of ours!
Fleece Martingale Walking Lead
Available in 4ft or 6ft lengths, the Martingale Fleece Walking leads are perfect for everyday use. They are adjustable to grow with the growing puppy and young dog, and secure that does not allow for a dog to slip out.
The 6in size is perfect for those starting out with younger dogs or girls, and the 8in size is perfect for the older boys! |
Fleece Martingale Collar
Private Pinch Collar
The pinch collar allows for the most control of many collar varieties. Contrary to the thought of some, the pinch collar is not painful to the dog at all. It actually uses the least tension of most options available, as it is a quick correction that teaches a dog to walk easily on a loose lead. This variety allows for an adjustable fit and an easy on/off buckle.

Crate and Confinement:
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to crates, but our dogs are accustomed to Plastic Vari Type Kennels. Especially for some of the older dogs, it can be a stark contrast to transition to a wire crate to start with. There are numerous brands who make these type crates and you are likely to have them available at your local Petsmart, Petco, Fleetfarm, Tractor Supply or several online retailers.
Our Boys are in the 300 Series (32L x 22.5W X 24H) Girls are in the 200 Series (28.5L x 20.5W x 21.5H) Please remember that a small puppy may do best with training beginning in a 100 series (24L x 17W x 14.5H), as they will be quite small in a crate as big as a 300 series which allows more room for them to soil it. |
